Rodger Neil Givens, 84 of Slaughter, KY; formerly of Hopedale, IL, passed away on July 25, 2023. He was born May 16, 1939 in McHenry, KY to Clarence Neil Givens and Marjorie Kathleen (Lacefield) Givens, who later married A. C. Sutherlin.
He married Sandra J Heflin on September 16, 1960 in Pekin, il and she survives. He is also survived by his children Pam (Steve) Hymbaugh of Hopedale, Warren (Lori) Givens of Slaughters, KY, Dorothy (Jeff) McGee of Delavan, and Karen (Paul) Vannaken of East Galesburg, 10 grandchildren, 14 greatgrandchildren, one sister Rosemary (Zane) Harbaugh of Mackinaw, and one brother Lin Givens of Hopedale, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a great grandson and many family members and friends who he adored.
Rodger's world revolved around God, family and music. He was a member of the Pekin Church of Christ. He played in many bands including Christy Lane, Merle Cherry and the Drifting Country Boys, Nashville North but the one he loved the most was being the founder and member of the family band Kentuckiana for over 30 years. He was also a member of IBEW Local 34. He worked at many places in his life including Ben Camden's service station and then ended his career as a construction electrician retiring after 30 years.
He loved fishing, gardening and most of all he loved spending time with family.
His funeral will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Living Hope Community Church in Hopedale. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 pm Friday, August 4, 2023 and one hour before the service, both at the church. Burial will be in Orndorff Cemetery in Hopedale. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is handling the arrangements.
