Rodger Meeker Obituary

Rodger Meeker, 73, of Manito, formerly of Green Valley, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2023 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. 

He was born December 8, 1949 in Burlington, IA to Robert G. and Bernadine C. Weyhrich Meeker.  He married Rayeann Poplette on January 24, 1970. 

Surviving are his children, David L. Meeker of Manito, Denise (Jon) Baker of Murray, KY, and Dustin (Angela) Meeker of Hendersonville, NC;

Six grandchildren, Alyssa (Jessica) Choate of Wingo, KY, Blake (fiancé Brittany Bollman) Lelm of Summerville, SC, Jax and Jordyn Meeker of Hendersonville, NC, Morgan Baker of Pekin and Ethan Baker of Ft. Campbell, KY; one brother, Robert (Diane) Meeker of Emden; three sisters, Jayne (John) Simpson of Chicago, Rusa Naylor of Florida, and Joy (Ricky) Pfortmiller of Natoma, KS; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Dex. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Rodger worked at Evonik Industries in Mapleton and farmed in Tazewell and Mason counties. 

He was a United States army veteran. 

He was a member of the Lutheran faith and was raised in the church that his family helped  build, Christ Lutheran in Delavan. He was also a member of the Manito American Legion. 

He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and a full supporter of the military. Rodger had the biggest smile and never met a stranger. He had a great heart and would help family or friends, if needed. He was a bone and tissue donor through the Gift of Hope Network, still helping people after he has passed. 

A memorial service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Christ Lutheran Church in Delavan.  Dennis Meeker will officiate.  Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:45 am Saturday, at the church. Military honors will be accorded following the service at the church. A celebration of life will be from 1:00-6:00 pm at Fergies Pub and Banquet Center 111 E. Market St., Manito, IL  61546. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan is handling the arrangements. 

Memorials may be made to Manito American Legion.
