Ruby Cain, 96, of Morton (formerly of Delavan) passed peacefully away at 1:25 pm Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at OSF Medical Center in Peoria, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born August 23, 1926 in Kentucky to Ray and Lydia Hawkins. She married Warren Cain on July 3, 1948 in Pellville, KY. They were married for 65 years prior to his death in 2013.
Surviving are one daughter Rita (John) Waller of Edelstein; two sons, Denzil (Carol) Cain of Delavan and Keith (Melody) Cain of Mapleton; 5 grandchildren and two step grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Hazel McBrayer and her brother M.C. Hawkins, both of Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, and three brothers.
She and Warren moved to Illinois in 1951 when he took a job with Caterpillar. After his retirement in 1982, they enjoyed 30 years of wintering in Florida, where they enjoyed fishing and bicycling.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and canning the fruits from her bountiful vegetable gardens. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. In 2015, she moved from Delavan to the Villas of Hollybrook in Morton. There she enjoyed walking laps in the hallways, playing Bingo and always had a friendly smile and greeting for everyone she met.
She was of Baptist faith and attended the Delavan Baptist Church and Emmanuel Baptist Church in Frostproof, FL.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon on Monday, September 26, 2022 at Davis Mortuary in Delavan with Robert Hentrich officiating. Visitation will be from 10 am to 11:45 am at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin immediately following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Villas of Hollybrook for their activities programs, which Ruby greatly enjoyed.
