Ruth Hellemann Obituary

Ruth Ann Hellemann, 88, of rural Pekin, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Holly Brook Memory Care in Morton, where she had resided for the past 4 ½ years. 

She was born June 3, 1934 in Pekin, to Edward and Thelma Lopossa Haas.  She married Franklin “Hank” Hellemann in 1956, and he passed away November 27, 2011.

Surviving are two daughters, Kathleen Morrison of Mesquite, TX and Melissa (Darren) Howlett of rural Pekin; four grandchildren, Ashley (Koree) Chandler, Courtney (Jack) Quast, Tyler Howlett, Nicole (Austin) Ogle; four great grandchildren, Haylee Chandler, Riley Chandler, Laynie Quast, and Ada Quast; sister-in-law, Clara Hellemann; nephews, Les Hellemann and Tim Hellemann; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Frank Umholtz and niece, Lynn Mortensen.

Ruth graduated from Pekin High School and worked at the American Distillery Company in the office. After her marriage, she was a homemaker and worked at Bergner’s in the fine jewelry department.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pekin and Tazewell County Home Extension.

A graveside service will be at 2:00 pm Friday, September 9, 2022 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Tremont.  Pastor Josh Beutow will officiate. There will be no visitation. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is handling the arrangements.

The family wishes to thank all of Ruth’s caregivers at the Memory Care and Transitions Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tremont Rescue Squad.
