Ruth Evelyn Henderson

Ruth Evelyn( Schwinn) Henderson, 96, of Tremont, entered into Heaven on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.

She was born July 2, 1927 in Tremont to Henry George and Lura Idalia Prunty Schwinn.  She married Herbert Arthur Henderson on July 24, 1948 in Tremont, and he passed away on October 13, 2017.

Surviving is her daughter, Sue Ellen Henderson of Tremont.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Nellie Marjorie Romine, Mary Virginia “Ginny” Paine, and Dorothy Eloise “Dort” Cox; and one brother, Harold George Schwinn.

Evelyn graduated from Tremont High School in 1945. She worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 31 years, retiring in May 1977.

She loved sewing and after retiring, she especially enjoyed making beautiful clothes for her daughter. She loved the many dogs that she had during her life and working in the yard with her husband.

Evelyn was a member of the Tremont Baptist Church, which she attended since her childhood.

Sue is very grateful to all the wonderful staff members at Hopedale Nursing Home and hospital for their amazing care since Evelyn moved there in July of 2022.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 am Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Tremont Baptist Church.  Pastor Noah Lee will officiate.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday at Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont.  Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Tremont.

Memorials may be made to Tremont Baptist Church or Hopedale Nursing Home Activity Department.
