Shelby Naffziger Obituary

Shelby Bryan Naffziger, 85, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Medical City Alliance Hospital, Fort Worth, Texas. 

Shelby was born January 25, 1939, in Champaign, Illinois.  He married Karen Sue McConkey on October 27, 1956 and they resided in Mackinaw, Illinois for 49 years and have lived 20 years in Texas. 

Shelby began his working life as an auto mechanic.  He worked at Parmele’s Gas Station, Hartter’s Chevrolet, and Lowery Ford in Mackinaw.

He then joined Morton Metalcraft Co. in Morton as a tool and die maker for 38 years until he retired in March 2005 and moved to Texas one week later. 

Shelby was a member of the Mackinaw Lion’s Club in his early years.  He was known throughout the Mackinaw area as the “Go To Guy” for automotive and small engine repairs, which he always enjoyed. 

Surviving Shelby are his wife of 68 years, Karen (Sue); two children, Terri (Robert) Gibbs of Fort Worth, TX and Brad (Susan) Naffziger of Dade City, FL; his grandchildren, Sean (Erin) O’Flaherty (Nora), Lauren (Bryan) Benton (Luke and Jack), Brandan Naffziger, Robert Naffziger, Stephanie Gibbs (River, Ryan, and Ronan), and Robi Gibbs; one brother, Roger Naffziger & family, and one sister, Donna Allen & family.  Shelby loved his family and especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Services will be held at Haensel-Oswald Funeral Home, Mackinaw, IL at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 17, 2025. Burial will be at Mackinaw Township Cemetery in Mackinaw, IL with lunch and fellowship to follow at the Mackinaw Community Center.  There will be no visitation prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers and tree planting, memorials may be made to Mackinaw Rescue Squad or Samaritan’s Purse samaritanspurse.org.
