Sherrie peacefully left her earthly body for Heaven on October 19, 2022. Born in 1947 in Mt Vernon to Pete and Wilma Imig, she grew up in central Illinois.
She owned Sherrie’s Beauty Lane in Groveland and later entered the exciting world of fashion working for Spiegel and Sears in Chicago. An author and illustrator, her articles on cutwork technique and elements of design were published in Know your Bernina and Sew Magazine. She launched her second business, Rae C. Quilting, during this time.
Sherrie shared her gifts as an accomplished instructor, designer, and in her later years, an award winning longarm quilter and very talented fabric artist. She was a member and past president of the Gems of the Prairie Quilters Guild and founded the Peoria Area Longarmers (PALS). She was honored when her “Aquatic Dance” was featured as Quilt of the Week in the “UNCOVERED: The Ken Burns Collection" exhibition of American quilts at the Peoria Riverfront Museum this past spring.
Missing her dearly are her loving husband of 46 years, Ed Coppenbarger; children Angela (Shawn) Casey, Joseph (Sherri) Beutel, Joseph (April) Hengst; grandchildren Shelby (Tim) Darrow, Zade Casey, Noah and Eli Hengst, and great-granddaughter Roselyn Darrow. She is also survived by her sister Karen Bean, brother Tim (Melissa) Imig, along with many loving extended family and friends.
Per Sherrie’s wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held on November 12, 2022 at the American Legion in Washington, IL from 1-4 pm (open house) where much of her quilts and art work will be on display.
