Sherrilyn G. Poorbaugh

Sherrilyn G. Poorbaugh, 94, formerly of Tremont, passed away Monday, August 21, 2023 at Hopedale Nursing Home.

She was born December 21, 1928 in Lexington to Ellis and Bess Rockel Garrett.  She married William H. Poorbaugh on June 3, 1951 in Lexington, and he passed away March 13, 1979.

Surviving are her children, Kathleen (Ron) Brown of Tremont, Kip (Deanna) Poorbaugh of Tremont, Vince Poorbaugh of TN, Lynn (Richard) Fender of Morton, and Colleen Williams of Minier;15 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; and two great grandsons; and one grandson-in-law.

Sherrilyn received her bachelor’s degree in education from Illinois State University.

She taught in several area school districts and worked as a receptionist at Tremont Medical Clinic.

She was a member of the Tremont Baptist Church and the Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame.

The family would like to thank the Hopedale Nursing Home doctors and staff for their wonderful care.

Her funeral will be at 11:00 am Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Tremont Baptist Church.  Pastor Noah Lee will officiate.  Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:45 am Thursday, also at the church.  Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Tremont.  Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is handling the arrangements.
