Stanley "Poppie" Kent Obituary

The family of Stanley “Poppie” Allen Kent is truly saddened to announce his passing on Friday, April 24, 2026.  Born on December 22, 1946, in Mondovi, Wisconsin, Stanley lived a full and memorable life. He truly touched the souls of everyone he met through the years, dedicated to coaching local youth sports, leading the Tremont Booster Club, his service to the United States Air Force, and the legacy eternally imprinted in the hearts of his family, community and friends.

Stanley’s family meant everything to him.  From his parents, Phyllis (Leslie) Ness and LaVern (Dora) Kent, faithful bride of nearly 53 years, Carmen Kent, whom he wed on July 26th, 1973.  Their beautiful daughters, Ronda Kent and Leslie (Jesse) Tanner, who gifted them with 3 precious granddaughters: Britney (Jason) Singer, Kirstin (Haden) Cole, and Peyton Tanner.  Quinn Cole and Owen Stanley Cole brought additional light into Stan’s world, by making him a Great-Grandfather. And lastly, but surely not least, his siblings: Jimmy Kent, Dale Kent, Steven Kent, LeAnn Falk-Rosenau, and Kenny Ness.

Stanley had a fulfilling career with the United States Air Force (MSGT) from 1966-1986, serving in Vietnam from 1971-1973, earning noteworthy awards, including the Outstanding Medal & Good Conduct Medal honors.  Sustaining his service to our nation, he gave an impressive 13 years in Madison, WI and Oklahoma City, OK, exceeding excellence in bringing reputable doctors and nurses to the Air Force until his service retirement in 1986. Continuing to dedicate his talent and professional time, Stanley solidified his reputation in Physician Recruitment for the Air Force for years to follow through his own company, Stan Kent & Associates.

Stanley’s life is a reflection of the sacrificial love and unwavering devotion he had to family, community and service to our country. He will be inexpressibly missed and fondly remembered as a faithful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to all who met and knew him.

A private graveside service and Celebration of Life event will be held on May 24, 2026, from 3-6 PM, at the Deer Creek American Legion, 31473 American Legion Rd. Mackinaw, IL 61755.

The family extends a very special thanks to the veterans of Operation Last Watch, Jill Wagenbach and the wonderful hospice staff for their compassion and care in his final days and continue to ask for fervent prayers and thoughts for the family while they navigate the days and events ahead.

Memorials may be made to Tunnel to Towers or the Greater Peoria Honor Flight.
