Susan Baddeley Staats (F.K.A. Hines), 79, of Pekin, formerly of Colorado Springs, CO and Elmhurst, IL passed away at 12:39 am Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Hallmark Healthcare in Pekin.
She was born May 1, 1941 in Pittsburgh, PA to Marcus and Helen Maxwell Baddeley. She married Samuel Hines in 1963 and then later married Gordon Staats in 2000.
Susan is survived by one son, Mark (Laura) Hines of Tremont; one daughter, Michele (Robert) Hamren of Colorado Springs, CO; four grandchildren, Tyler (Jenny) Hines of Milwaukee, WI, Brianna Hines of Chicago, IL, Dean Stout of Sullivan, IL, Connor Stout of Colorado Springs CO; three great grandchildren, Barrett, Chloe and Avalynn; one sister, Judith (George) Palmer of Rehoboth Beach, DE; two nieces, Cindy (Ron) Szafraniec and Jill (Dave) Losco. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Gordon.
Susan was a longtime advocate for children. She volunteered with the Illinois Children’s Home and Aid Society in the 1970’s where she co-authored the Measures of Love Cookbook which raised much needed funds for the ICH&A. She was a member of the Elmhurst Unit District 205 School Board from 1978-1985 serving as President from 1981-1983. She was an entrepreneur owning and operating several small businesses throughout her life. In her later years she continued her passion for helping children, beginning work at Mission of Mercy (now OneChild) in 2006 until her retirement in 2015.
Cremation has been accorded. A private service will be held at a later date.
