Teddy Johnson Obituary

Teddy E. Johnson was born in Rantoul, IL on September 19, 1931. He was the youngest of nine children born to John Roy and Mabel Catherine (Chatham) Johnson.

He spent his childhood years in the Rantoul school system graduating from Rantoul High School in 1949. Teddy served in the Army in the Korean War from February 6, 1951 until being  honorably discharged on February 5, 1954 as a Sergeant First Class.

Returning home, Teddy enrolled at Eastern Illinois University, graduating with his Bachelor’s Degree in 1958 and Master’s Degree in 1967. He began his teaching career at Paxton High School, and was an Administrator at Ridge Farm, Auburn, and Delavan, Illinois. That was what he loved doing.

Teddy is survived by his wife, Judy (Needs) Johnson (of 67 years). They met at Eastern Illinois University. They have three sons: Denis and Sarah Johnson of Sherwood WI., Douglas and Maureen Johnson of Plainfield, IL., and Jeffrey and Leah Johnson of Delavan, IL Seven grandchildren: Lindsay and (Andrew) Seher, Kelly and (Robert) Lawyer, Dalton, Christopher, Alexander (Chelsea) Johnson, Kimberly, and Tollin There are two Great Grandchildren: Theo Seher and Hailey Lawyer. Teddy loved Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior and was an ardent part of his Church. He enjoyed following the Cubs, Bears, and the Illini when he was not spoiling his grandchildren.

Teddy and Judy were ”snow birds” for nineteen years, last being in North Port, Florida.

Teddy went to be with his LORD on September 19, 2024 at Snyder Village, in Metamora, Illinois (on his 93rd Birthday). Visitation will be held at the Davis- Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan on Thursday, September 26th, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The Memorial Service will be Friday, September 27th at 10:30 am at the Davis- Oswald Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Snyder Village or Samaritans Purse.
