Thomas Conover Obituary

Thomas R. Conover, 82, of Tremont, passed away Friday, May 28, 2021 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. 

He was born December 29, 1938 in Castleton, the first of seven children born to Robert and Ruth George Conover.  He married Mary Ann Hedges on November 27, 1958 in LaFayette, IL, and she passed away February 27, 2014. 

Tom graduated from Wyoming High School in 1957and further education includes Dale Carnegie Course Study, PTI at U of I and ICC.  In his youth, he worked at the Wyoming Bowling Alley as a pin setter and ran the projector for the movies at the Wyoming Paramount Theater downtown Wyoming. He was American Airlines O’Hare Field Chicago Customer Service Representative to some of the celebrities in the 1960’s and worked Quality Control for airline electronics at Breeze Inc.  He was a deputy with the Stark County Sheriff’s department and retired as a law enforcement officer for the city of Tremont.  He held eight years as a Tremont Village Trustee and was a Zoning and Code Enforcement board member. 

In the late 1960’s he and Mary Ann were members of the National Council of Mustang Club Road Rally’s and members of the Kewanee Kicker’s Square Dance Club.  He also worked at Lake Calhoun Country Club as a green’s keeper and was a caddy at several Quad Cities John Deere Classic and Springfield State Farm Rail Classic golf tournaments.  He placed in several local golf tournaments over the years.  He was in a local senior men’s weekly golf outing and was on bowling leagues, Brother’s Tournament, and Couple’s bowling with his wife.  He bowled a 300-game rank and bowled on several Special Olympics Bowling Leagues in Pekin. Tom served as a past snowmobile special safety instructor for Tremont and was a recent winner of the traveling trophy for Fantasy Football League with a local Tremont group. He was a member of the Tremont Masonic Lodge #462. 

He is survived by his three daughters, Karyl Conover of Tremont, Kristine (Ron) Anderson of Edwards, and Kathie (Josh) Perez of Washington; three grandchildren, Abbygayle (Austin) Garner of Iowa, Nathanael Anderson of CA, and Elizabeth Anderson of Edwards; one step grandson, Cheng Lu (Aram Seong) of TX; one daughter-in-law, Shuju Li of TX; two brothers, David (Carolyn) Conover of Wyoming and Bill (Sandy) Conover of Creve Coeur;  three sisters, Frances Thornton of Bloomington, Mary Servis of El Paso, and Lora Meadows of MO; eight nephews and three nieces. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years; one son, Cary; one sister, Carolyn Delbridge of Princeville. 

Cremation has been accorded. A graveside service with Masonic Rites will be at 11:00 am Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Tremont.  There will be no visitation. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is handling the arrangements.
