Thomas Manes

Thomas E. Manes, 59, of Bloomington, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born March 17, 1967 in Bloomington to William Edward and Marjorie A. DePoister Manes.  He married  Leatha Israel on August 30, 2003 in Hopedale, and she survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Amber Schmitgall of Richfield, WI; one granddaughter, Paisley Schmitgall; and two bonus grandchildren, Bentley and Kinsley Maas; his siblings, Michael (Linda) Manes of Hiram, GA, Teresa (John) Allen of Littleton, CO, Timothy (Beth) of Minneapolis, MN, Ronald (Dan) Manes of Omaha, NE; sisters-in-law, Brenda (Eric) Lacefield of Hopedale, Becky Sosnowski of Minier; brother-in-law, Paul Gresham of Minier; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; and one grandson, Parker Schmitgall; and one sister-in-law, Susan Bennett.

Tom graduated from Calvary Baptist Academy in Normal and received an associate’s degree from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC.

He worked at Calvary Baptist Church and Academy in Normal for many years, last working at Rivian in Normal.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was currently attending Freedom Baptist Church in Bloomington.

He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan and enjoyed wood working.  He had a deep and special love for his family and had deep faith.

His service will be at 5:00 pm Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at Freedom Baptist Church in Bloomington.  Visitation will be from 3 to 5 pm Tuesday , also at the church.  Private burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery in Wapella.  Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Freedom Baptist Church in Bloomington or Pet Central Helps in Bloomington.
