Velma Jane Schmidgall, 82, of Mackinaw, passed away May 24, 2024 at Sugar Creek Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Normal.
She was born August 21, 1941 in Delavan to Harm and Minnie Converse Klokkenga. She married Bruce E. Schmidgall on August 30, 1959 in Delavan, and he survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Amy (James) Johnson, Alice (Steven) Musselman, and Annetta (Shane) Marlett; four grandchildren, Megan (Mitch) McConville, Stephanie Wheeler, Rebecca Johnson, and Rachel (Jordy Stimeling) Johnson; two great grandsons, Leo McConville and Finley Johnson; two sisters, Ann Flexsenhar of Winthrop, IA and JoAnn (Roland) Lundy of Pekin.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Marjorie Donley; and two brothers, Harm and Paul Klokkenga.
Velma graduated from Delavan High School in 1959. She worked at Nussbaum Trucking in Normal and BankPlus in Mackinaw.
She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Tremont and enjoyed sewing, cake decorating, riding her bicycle and reading her Bible.
Cremation has been accorded. A celebration of Life will be from 1-5 pm Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Mackinaw Community Center. A private service will be held. Haensel-Oswald Funeral Home in Mackinaw is handling the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Mackinaw Rescue or a charity of the donor’s choice.
