Walter Riggenbach Obituary

Walter John Riggenbach, 82, of Morton, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 19, 2022 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria surrounded by his family. 

He was born October 4, 1940 in Pekin to Francis James and Madeline Welk Riggenbach. He married Waneta Manard on March 20, 1966 in Baylis, she survives. 

Also surviving are his children, Christi Van Antwerp of Washington and Cindy (Steve) Springer of Eureka; one son, Phillip (Danette) Riggenbach of Chenoa; seven grandchildren, Josiah (Anna) Springer, Elijah (Betsy) Springer, Annaliese (Brandon) Mingus-Harris, Elizabeth Springer, Judah Springer, Noah Riggenbach, and Mary (Giovanni) Avila; one sister, Sharon Frana of Metropolis; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

John was a local truck driver and farmer in the Morton area. 

He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. 

John had a wonderful sense of humor and loved teasing his family and friends. He was a kind-hearted and loving person and will be greatly missed. 

He was a member of the Illinois Airstream Club, which he thoroughly enjoyed.  He loved traveling, meeting new people, and made many wonderful friends along the way. 

After his family and friends, John loved traveling, sports, and especially the St. Louis Cardinals. 

John gave his life to Christ and was baptized in 1977. He attended Eastside Bible Church in Morton, where his funeral will be at 10:00 am Wednesday, November 23, 2022. Pastor Steve Weber will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Tuesday, also at the Church. Burial will be in the Morton Apostolic Christian Cemetery. 

Memorials may be made to Eastside Bible Church.
