Walter Dale "Frog" Oldham

Walter Dale “Frog” Oldham, 78, of Hopedale, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family, after a four year battle with cancer. 

He was born February 13, 1944 in Pekin to Walter H. and Verla Dailey Oldham.  He married Sue Wilson Schmitgall in Delavan on November 21, 1969. 

Frog is survived by his wife of 53 years; three children, Brian (Debra) Schmitgall, Ken Oldham, and Jennifer (Rodney) Williams, all of Hopedale; three grandchildren, Andrew (Amber) Schmitgall of Cory, IN, Brooke Schmitgall of Hopedale, and Jacob Carley (Ashton Jones) of Bloomington; two great grandchildren, Paisley Schmitgall and Ayden Carley; two sisters, Jan Martin of Hopedale and Christy (David) Dringenberg of Delavan. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Phyllis Martin; one brother, Gene Oldham; and one great grandson, Parker Schmitgall. 

Frog graduated from Hopedale High School in 1962 and then served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967. 

He was a carpenter by trade.  He retired after 25 years from Manito Investment (Mike Cullinan). 

He served as a Hopedale Township trustee for several terms. 

He loved spending time with family and good friends, being outdoors and playing cards. 

A visitation will be from 3 to 5 pm Saturday, January 21, 2022 at Living Hope Community Church in Hopedale.  There will be no service and cremation will be accorded following the visitation.  Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont is handling the arrangements.
