William "Bill" Elliott Jr. Obituary

William “Bill” C. Elliott, Jr. 103, passed away on Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, at Arcadia Care of Morton. He was born on Oct. 14. 1921 to William C. Elliott, Sr. and Elizabeth M. Westphal in McKeesport, PA. He married Nancy I. Dutcher on January 26, 1946, in McKeesport, PA. She preceded him in death on Feb. 18, 2009.

Surviving is one son, Tim Elliott, of Tremont, and one daughter, Barbara (Steve) Crow of Milford, OH. Along with five grandchildren: Matthew (Lorie) Crow; Wendi (Kelly) Shadwick; Nicholas Elliott; Andrew (Carrie) Elliott; and Paul Elliott, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Caroline Elliott Humphreys.

Bill served in WWII in the US Army from 1941 to 1945. Where he fought in Germany during the Battle of the Bulge. He was a Member of the Illinois Air National Guard and was activated during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962.

He retired from Caterpillar tractor company in 1986 after being employed there for almost 40 years. He was a member of the Caterpillar Mixed Chorus and performed in several of their musicals. He was also part of the Caterpillar camping club and enjoyed traveling in his retirement.

During Bills retirement, he enjoyed driving for We Care, delivering meals to shut-ins, and ringing the bell for the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle drive. He Lived in Tremont for over 75 years.  Bill was one of the first volunteers of Tremont Rescue 702. He was very active in Tremont Turkey Festival and served as grand marshal of the parade in 1996 along with his wife Nancy.  He was the last surviving charter member of the Tremont VFW.

Bill was very active in his community; he was part of the Tremont Lions Club where he had served as secretary and the Tremont Masonic Lodge.  He was an active member of Tremont United Methodist church and was their oldest member. He enjoyed ringing the bell in the original church, sang in the choir, and held the position of head usher for many years. He also enjoyed playing Santa Claus at the church daycare center.

Services will be held at the Methodist Church in Tremont on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025. He will have a Masonic Rites Service starting at 9 am. Visitation from 9:30 - 11am. Funeral will be at 11am. Assistant Pastor Jacque Young will officiate. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, IL.
